Fix for MAC OS 10.9 and higher

Postby Dmitry_Orlov » 16 Nov 2015, 13:00

Dear Bio-Well users,

Thank you for chosing the Bio-Well!

Apple Corp. has changed it policy of working with USB devices and stopped supporting FTDI driver and working with the USB devices directly.
Now they are using their own driver that works with USB devices only through virtual COM port protocol.
This makes impossible to use Bio-Well devices correctly as Bio-Well software needs to read the ChipID and serial number of the Bio-Well device, and virtual COM port protocol doesn't allow to do that.
That is why if you have 10.9 or higher MAC OS versions - you will have problems with Bio-Well device connection.

If you have issues with using Bio-Well device and software on your MAC computer and
- system asks you for the password each time you start the Bio-Well software;
- system crashes when you try to make a scan.

Please connect your Bio-Well device to your computer via USB cable.
Do not start the Bio-Weel software.

Please enter these lines one by one in the Terminal (Applications -> Utilities):

If you have OS version 10.9 or 10.10:

1. sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI

2. sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBFTDI.disabled

3. sudo mv -r /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBFTDI.kext /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBFTDI.disabled

4. sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBFTDI.kext

You will prompted to enter your Administrator password - please do that.

If you have OS version 10.11:

1. sudo kextunload -bundle-id com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI

2. curl http://www.bio-well.ru/download/ftdi_fix.pkg -o /tmp/ftdi_fix.pkg

3. sudo installer -pkg /tmp/ftdi_fix.pkg -target /

You will prompted to enter your Administrator password - please do that.

Wait until the process is finished.

In case this fix doesn't help you - please write a comment here or contact us at support@bio-well.com or info@bio-well.eu.

It is not obligatory. But it is better to connect it before you start appying the strings.
